According to IBISWorld, industry-based research provider, more than half of Australias adult population is overweight or obese, which leads to multimillion-dollar consumer spending on diet cookbooks, weight loss guides, dietary supplements, and numerous other ways to lose the extra pounds. A new blog called Lifestyle Menu hails an entirely different approach to getting thinner with the no diet weight loss approach wherein people spend their money instead on good quality food. Informative, insightful, and up-to-date, Lifestyle Menu recently posted a list of surprising health issues that could impede the success of any weight loss plan.

Lifestyle Menus Lyn Ashby writes, I have made some important discoveries that could be hindering your efforts if you want to get rid of those unwanted pounds and keep them off you need to address some potential health conditions.

The enlightening new post lists insulin resistance, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea as some of the health issues that could potentially prevent any person from losing the extra weight. Ashby reports, Insulin resistance can set up a nasty cycle whereby it is more difficult to lose weight if you are insulin resistant but being overweight is one of the major causes of insulin resistance. Apart from weight gain, insulin resistance is associated with abdominal obesity, high blood pressure (hypertension), high triglycerides, and low HDL (good cholesterol).

While high blood pressure, by itself, doesnt get in the way of weight loss plans some of the medications prescribed however, Ashby shares, can increase weight. As for sleep apnea, a chronic condition wherein a persons breathing is interrupted during sleep, Ashby points out, This affects the hormones leptin and ghrelin which in turn increases appetite. The catch 22 is that sleep apnea is more common in people who are overweight but it also is a major cause of inability to lose weight.
