Question :

What meds can a person take for stabilizing moods and anger management?

He has a problem with his moods. He is frequently irritable and rages like he s on steroids. (He s not using). What can he take to calm himself down. It seems to be a type of impulse control disorder.
Answer :
well I think the best med would be medical marijuana, because is natural, and it does not have any side affects, the only thing is the you might gain some weight because it make hungry, also there s different kind of marijuana some will make you sleepy, others will keep you active. Personally I don t take pills, because they harm you more them help you in most cases, anything natural is better. Marijuana works, I used to get mad all the time before, and I would say things that I would regret to family, freinds and sometimes even my boss. Marijuana is not the answer it only helps temporary you need to take some classes for anger and try to search for some spiritual healing.

Question :

When is the best time to use sensory toys for ADHD/ODD and Mosaic Down Syndrome?

My oldest son is 5 and he is already getting in fights in school (kindergarten). He has ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Combined Type),ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder), and Impulse Control Disorder-- Intermittent Explosive Disorder. He has the most extreme case of Everything!

I would like to know if anyone has used Sensory toys to help with the behavior problems of these disorders and if they have worked for you.

I would also like to know which ones worked for you (your children) and when the best time is to use them.

My youngest son is 2 and we were just told that he has Mosaic Down Syndrome. How could these toys help him? Can anyone explain what M.D.S. is and how it is like when he will get older?

Thank you for your time. AND your help.
Answer :
I would think the sensory toys would help, but has anyone said that he has sensory issues? I know they re common with autism, and ADHD is on the spectrum, so it wouldn t hurt to try. What you could do is get the book The Out of Sync Child. It s all about sensory integration disorder. After reading that if it sounds like your child, then get the companion book The Out of Sync Child Has Fun. It lists all kinds of activities you can do with your child to aid in the sensory issues. I LOVE those books. Contact me if you d like, with your email address, and I ll see what I can find for you in regards to the M.D.S. I m on a homeschooling group for special needs kids, and at least one mom their deals with M.D.S. I ll see what I can do to answer that question.

UPDATE:
here s a message board I found for DS and MDS that has two threads talking about oral fixation.
http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showt

Here s a good site that talks about sensory processing dysfunction and Down s, they might be able to help.
http://www.sifocus.com/sensoryintegratio

I don t have any experience with Down s either regular or mosaic, but I DO have experience with sensory integration. If this is an issue with MDS, and it looks like from the little I read that it is, then it makes a HUGE difference. Our brains process our thinking and actions according to the info our senses give it. When the wiring has gone wrong, as with SID, then those signals are mixed, and the brain cannot function properly. Using the sensory toys and getting sensory therapy re-trains the brain, or re-wires it to some extent. To what extent depends on the severity of the other disorders, like the MDS. It s definitely something to look into. If you can, buy the books "The Out of Sync Child" and "The Out of Sync Child Has Fun". They completely explain sensory integration, why it s so crucial, and help you determine where your child stands in regards to sensory issues. The second book has different games and activities for you to do with your child to help re-train their brains. This will also help with the ADHD and the ODD, not sure about the other one. Also, go to Yahoo Groups and type in Mosic Down s Syndrome and see if there s any groups that you can join (they re free) so you can talk with other parents who can explain that part, and give you ideas and support. I KNOW you ll find groups for ADHD, but be prepared, most people only use drugs for that and aren t open to other therapies. Hope this helps, feel free to contact me if you d like for more help with the sensory issues.
