Addiction can be a serious problem for any relationship to endure. It is easy to get into a mode as a partner of rescuing and shielding the addict form the consequences of his or her behaviors.Sometimes the addiction is the main issue, but there are also instances where an addiction can signal a larger problem.Personality disorders frequently involve compulsive behaviors, which can include addictions.Keeping in mind that using addicts can show behavior that may mimic personality disorders, here are 9 signs that your partner may have more going on than simple addiction, and may be afflicted with a personality disorder such as narcissism or sociopathy:

1. Lack of remorse of a true guilt response for doing something wrong.Lacking a conscience, a person with sociopathy is likely to be upset of caught, if he or she thinks faking a response will return you to his or her control.the true repentance for the act is lacking, and the sociopath may even feel entitled to harm others if they are weak enough to "set themselves up."

2. Lack of empathy for the emotional needs of others.Your partner may be incapable of placing him or herself into someone else's shoes and acts callously as a result.

3. A lack of proper behavioral controls. This can result in compulsive behaviors related to sexuality, drugs, and alcohol.

4. A tendency to act violently, such as fistfights or other explosive events.

5. A consistent irresponsibility is displayed, such as being unable to hold down a steady job, pay bills on time, or honor marital commitments.

6. Your partner might feel a grandiose sense of a self worth, exaggerating what he or she has accomplished, expecting others to offer excessive raise, and adopting a haughty attitude toward others.

Question :

Survey for homosexuals - will you please read?

Hi,

I m a student and the University of Pennsylvania and right now I m doing an independent study on neurological behavior. My research has lead me to the study of many personalities, behaviors, etc. Because I believe personalized questions are the best approach to understanding people and the way they think, I ve been greatly involved in creating all kinds of surveys to evaluate points of interest.

Homosexuality is a very common word we hear these days and is sometimes the fuel of major controversial debates. Heterosexuals believe they understand what homosexuality is, but they often lack in education of the people, rather than the term. My goal here is to understand the reasons, choices, experiences, and thoughts of homosexuals and determine any similarities of the point in interest.

*disclaimer: Please know I am not judging any sexual orientation. I am accepting of all. My questions are tailored to have a better understanding of true homosexuality. I will use these answers as reference in my future research of neurobiology. Note that this is non-profit research, absolutely anonymous, and I keep all parties involved private. This is merely independent unaccredited research of a university student.

1: At what age did you notice signs of homosexuality, and how did you react?
2: Did you ever feel like you had to hide your sexuality? Why?
3: At first, were you proud of your sexuality? Or, at what point did you become proud, if ever?
4: What do you think causes homosexuality? Is it biological, fate, choice, etc.?
5: What has been the hardest adjustment point to your sexuality? What was surprisingly easy?
6: Do you feel that heterosexuality is wrong? Why?
7: Have you considered gender reassignment surgery? What are your thoughts on this extreme surgery? Why or why not would you have the surgery?
8: What is the best part about being homosexual?
9: Do you or possibly suffer from a mental illness such as depression, bi-polar, OCD, ADHD, etc.? (PTSD and like trauma-related-disorders included)
10: Have you ever been the victim of abuse, sexual abuse, trauma, etc.?
11: Have you ever suffered from an addiction such as alcoholism, drug abuse, sex, self-harm, etc.?
12: Do you feel like your sexuality defines you?

Thank you for taking the time and answering these questions. I really appreciate the effort. Thanks for helping out a university student!

Answer :
1. Age 10. I really liked my best friend. Like really liked her. But being young I always thought thats just how good friends were supposed to feel. We enjoyed giving each other hugs and holding hands, I always thought we were just good friends.
2. When I came to the conclusion I was homosexual I didn t think I needed to hide it. But I didn t flaunt it to make me seem unique from everyone else. If anyone asked I would say yes, but I was a loner in high school so no one did ask.
3. I was proud I suppose. Like I said before, I didn t flaunt it. I just felt normal.
4. Honestly, I think it s biological. I think there are certain things inside of us that make us attracted to the same sex. I don t know if it ll ever be proven, but I stand with that belief.
5. The hardest part was being around girls I liked but never being able to do anything about it. It was surprisingly easy keep it in though. And fun too. Every day was like an adrenaline rush being around attractive girls and then coming home with all this built up tension... :P
6. No I don t see anything wrong with that.
7. I have had no thoughts of gender reassignment surgery. My thoughts on it are: I think it is extreme, but if someone is unhappy in the body their in, then it s a perfectly fine option for their happiness. I wouldn t get it because I am happy with who I am...and don t have the money to afford such a large procedure if I was unhappy with myself.
8. Haha...honestly, the sex. I absolutely love being with women.
9. PTSD, depression
10. Throughout my childhood and teen years my sister and I were subject to verbal and physical abuse from my mother and her alcoholism. Our father died when I was 11 but I didn t miss him because he had molested my sister throughout childhood. At age 12 I was raped. That paved the way for my loner behaviour in high school.
11. I was addicted to self harm for a while, but switched to drugs (pot, heroin) for three years. I stopped at 16 because I didn t want to ruin myself any more. And I needed to take care of my sister because our mother couldn t take care of herself let alone her children.
12. Defines me as a person? No. It is a part of me, but doesn t define me.
