One of the tools used to determine the severity of a patients' anxiety is the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale. This is a 14 point questionnaire that breaks down all of the possible symptoms of anxiety to decide exactly how severe the patients' case is. While the first 13 questions are basically an interview conducted by a therapist, the last question is based on their perception of how the individual is doing.
The questionnaire itself is meant to rate the severity of symptoms such as mood, tension, physical symptoms and fears. The doctor interviews the patient and records the answers on the test, giving them a rating from 0-4. Upon completion of the test, the results are added up and based on the total, it will give a general idea of how severe the case of anxiety is.
If the total score is a 17 or less, the case of anxiety is deemed to be mild. However, this depends on the honesty of the person when describing their symptoms. For some it can be difficult to answer honestly, being ashamed of their anxiety and will try to hide how they are actually feeling. A skilled therapist should be able to spot this and coax the true feelings to the surface. If the total score in the 18-24 range, the person is deemed to have a mild to moderate case and should be able to overcome the anxiety on their own or with some assistance from a therapist. Learning breathing techniques and how to adjust your mentality in certain situation will help to reduce anxiety for you if your anxiety is at this level. However, a score from 25-50 indicates you are suffering from severe anxiety and it is likely you will need assistance in overcoming your attacks.
The test itself is fairly simple and you can see it online (do a search and you should find it). As with any type of evaluation, the skill of the interviewer is critical. You can see by the questions that they are not only based on an answer from the patient, but there also has to be some intuition on the part of the interviewer to correctly interpret their answers. However simple this test may appear, it consistently delivers accurate results in testing for anxiety. It has stood the test of time and will continue to be used by health care professionals in the evaluation and treatment of anxiety disorders.
You CAN deal with your anxiety and panic attacks without drugs and without spending a fortune on programs and counseling. For more information, grab your free report: The Anxiety Diet No-No's http://www.clickherelearnnow.com/anxiety.html.

Question :
Can the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale be used by unlicensed researchers?
If so, I need to put it in my review or related literature. I sure hope you could give me a link about it. :) THANKS!
Answer : Yes, it can be used by anybody. But the real question is, can it be used CORRECTLY. While the test is useful to help therapists to understand a patients level of anxiety, it is only as good as the skills of the therapist and the answers are very much subject to interpretation. So it is really not a question of "licensed researchers", it is a question of education, training, and experience on how to use the HARS.
Besides, what sort of "license" do you mean?

Dear Emuna,
My daughter just turned 16 and she really wants to get her drivers license. She is constantly whining about it and complains that we are overprotective. She says that all the other parents let. Should be just give in? Is she right?
- Parents of Teenagers
Dear POT,
I think there are at least two separate issues here. One is the oft-repeated expression, All the other parents let. If I had a dollar for every time an adolescent said thatIt is almost never true and is almost always a tool for manipulation. That doesnt mean you shouldnt be flexible. That doesnt mean you shouldnt listen to reasonable arguments. That doesnt mean you shouldnt evaluate the seriousness of the situation (I have changed my mind and given in to many a sleepover request when it turns out that the other parents do in fact let.)
The specific issue at stake is driving. Ive always been in favor of raising the driving age until I heard some recent study results. Apparently in states where the legal driving age is now 18 instead of 16, there are few accidents among 16-year-olds for obvious reasons. But guess what has increased? Thats right, the number of accidents in the 18-year-old category. There is no question that driving is risky and traumatic for the parents. But it is a risk the world accepts. It is part of growing up. It is part of creating adults from children.
I think we cripple our kids when we hold them back from the reasonable experiences of their peers due to our anxiety. Each step of our childrens independence is difficult for us. It means they are growing up and away from us. Almost nothing marks that more dramatically than getting a drivers license and the freedom it provides. We have to give them appropriate guidelines (its not you we dont trust, its the other guy) and rules, lessons and cautions and lots of practice. And then we have to let go and recognize that just like everything else, this too is in the Almightys hands.
- Emuna . . Dear Emuna,
My husband and I have a very good marriage. We can talk about anything and we enjoy each others company. Our parenting styles are even in sync. There is only one issue that can sometimes be a source of conflict. My husband is outgoing and gregarious. He loves a big party and a happening scene. I am more introverted. I dont enjoy the noise and commotion of a big gathering. And I especially dont enjoy the social expectations. I like conversations with a small group of friends. Sometimes I feel like I am holding him back from having fun and that theres something wrong with me. Doesnt everyone love a good party?
- Loner
Dear Party Animal Not,
Only one issue? You are one lucky lady. The Almighty made all different types of people with different character traits. Some are extroverted and some are introverted. Neither quality is morally superior to the other. They are just different aspects of who we are. And we can not be who we arent. You and your husband were probably attracted to each other because you each wanted a little of what you lacked, a little of what your partner has. So enjoy it. If your husband had wanted a party girl, he would have married one.
You can each engage in separate activities on occasion where the desires of your natures clash. And, like all other areas of marriage, you may also be required to compromise. You may have to accompany him to some large social gatherings. He may stay home with you and a small group of friends, or maybe just you! You can both learn and grow from each other and from your separate and different experiences. The key is not to judge each other or yourself. Like I said, neither quality is superior (although sometimes society places more value on the extrovert). This is the way the Almighty made you and He doesnt make mistakes.
- Emuna . . Dear Emuna,
We are constantly opening our home to guests. And both my husband and I love it. I dont mind the effort because I enjoy the experience. Sometimes our guests are friends and sometimes they are strangers. I dont expect them to help me cook or set the table of even bring a gift (although I happen to think its good character and says something about their mother if they dont). But there is one thing that bothers me.
My husband always clears the table (with my childrens help) and sometimes the guests just sit there while he does. He doesnt complain but it really bothers me. Any tips on dealing with this?

Question :
How to loose a stone or 2 before Christmas?
Hey so i m a 16 year old girl, i am about 5 foot 5 and weigh 10 and a half stone, i have always been chubby i was born at 10pound3 lol, so i have never been the slim figure i have always wanted to be, its mainly my hips, belly and tops of my legs i hate, i will wear a cardigan to cover up my hips 24/7 even if its 34 degrees outside, i will sit with a pillow infront of my belly, i have been with my boyfriend for nearly 8 months but the way i feel about myself gets in the way of us doing things going places or even meeting his family :/, i went to the doctors a week ago because i suffer from anxiety, stress and depression, i am on the pill and i got told that makes you put on weight what doesn t help, my doctor said what is it about u you dont like i said my whole body image,so she said ill send you to fat club then,, so im going there tomorrow, i have never liked myself and it stops me from going out so i dont do much walking nothing really because i hate going out the house , but this christmas i want to be different and actually be happy in my dress and be happy at christmas and have nice family photos done instead of having a pillow infront of my belly covering my dress :/ i dont exactly live on junk food im actually quite heathy but im still fat lol, my mum is going on a diet with me so we will have all veg and fruit in the house, but im just wondering if slim fast shakes or anything like that works , i have tried weight loss pils before but didnt work , i just really need to no how to loose it , i have been on many diets for about a month , but every day i was on my diet i got fatter felt fatter, everyone said i was being stupid when i said that till i told my doctor and she said yes some people cant loose weight , but i really want a need to for me to actually live a 16 year olds life and go out , go shopping , go out with friends, i don t no any of that, please help me thankyou ,
Answer : When you are losing weight, you should exercise and diet together. If you exercise without dieting, you will get bigger appetite, which will lead to increase of weight, or muscle grow underneath the fat layer, and make you bulkier. If you diet without exercising, you will become flabby and will have excess skin. For diet, go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on your initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If you don t eat wheat then you don t eat all those sticky, fatty goey cakes, you don t eat junk food, and you don t eat biscuits. But your diet is still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to calculate points or to buy special meals or plans. For exercising, start with walking, and then switch to running/jogging. Running is the most efficient and calorie-burn exercise ever. If you are overweight a lot, walk first or you may have health complications (heart attack, disjointed bones and so on). Weight lifting is a good means to target your problem areas for men and women. It s not necessarily to become a bodybuilder or even join a gym - a couple of dumbbells will help you to target your problem areas (stomach, butt, legs, arms, chest).

I need some help with ideas for a photo project about ed/ocd/anxiety?
so, i m doing a shoot this week with my friend who has serious problems with eating disorders, cutting and ocd. if she s open to it, i d like to do photos based around that. i don t want it to be a negative statement though, i just want it to be like "this is how it feels," you know? i don t want it to be triggering for her, nothing like "this is my spine, i have an eating disorder" but more of the psychological side of it. i want to start out by asking her a few questions, but what could i do? i was thinking about doing something on the frustration, like -pulling out hair -knuckles clenched -headaches and ask something like "what s the most frustrating part of your recovery" or something idk i m really stuck and some suggestions would be nice
Answer : I think speaking to a therapist is better than acting out what she shouldn t be doing (which you state it would be a triggering for her) with a camera pointing at her unless it s a 800 mm lens.

Answer : I think you will get the best answers from your friend herself--
It s good that you are aware of the possibility of being exploitative. Pictures of bony figures, people in the act of cutting or purging, etc. are often viewed as "glamorizing" the issue.
If you ask this in the photography section, they may be able to give you links to similar photos that will give you some ideas.

How To Win The Divorce Game By Using The Family Court System Like An Ax To Clobber Your Opponent! (Delaware County Pennsylvania)
Image by Cheri Sundra: Guerilla Historian ***This is dedicated to all of the women out there who know EXACTLY what I am talking about!
With almost 50% of all marriages today ending in divorce, even if you believe that your marriage is strong and that your spouse is faithful, you cant afford to be nave in thinking that your marriage will last forever with statistics like that..you need the peace of mind that comes with preparation since divorce court isnt about what is fair or right or just, its about who has the access to the knowledge, connections and money to win the fight.
First Id suggest becoming a paralegal if you can.
Success will be even sweeter if you have the financial and emotional support of your potential divorce court victim while earning this degree!
Next you need to find yourself a good financial advisor so you can use their address to open bank accounts and lines of credit without your victims knowledge. You can set all kinds of devious plans in motion by having this alternate mailing address!
If you have children, make them unwitting participants in the relationship with your advisorit will prove to be useful in the long run. Teach your children to lie to your victim when they are spending time with this "advisor"..... Whats a little corruption to the parent/child relationship when you have a court case to win, right? Winning at all costs is your first rule!
Now wait until the childs 13th birthday, the age that the court will allow them input about where they want to live
Next its very important to make sure that the other person is ALWAYS in a position of having to defend themselves.and lets not forget that chaos is your best friend in these situations.
Now lets put together a hypothetical example, shall we?
Lets say you are an executive with an exciting career that includes a lot of travel (good cover for creating a double, perhaps even a triple, life without your victims knowledge).
Now purposely act erratically and aggressively at work (and at home) so you get fired, but make sure that you hide that little fact from your victim for long as possible to add to the shock and awe of what is to come next. Plus you've just created an awkward situation for your victim's lawyer in the future when they have to decide between fighting for spousal support and giving the court copies of your bizarre employee evaluation that you received prior to termination!
Now create a chaotic situation that makes your victim feel threatened.
Use any tools necessary such as children, family pets, your financial advisor, camping equipment whatever you can find at your disposal.
The goal is to try to get your victim to seek refuge and support from family/friends, hopefully outside of the family home. While they are dealing with being emotionally blindsided and distraught, you will have access to the residence yourself. Make sure you trash the place and take pictures so you can blame the victimit will add to the chaos and the legal issues that you are compiling in your war against them (Plus fits into your bigger plan later).
The next morning, cut them off from the financial resources that you share, leaving them at their most vulnerable point and file for divorce so they are put immediately on the defensive with no resources to fight you with-big score for you!
Plus, what child will want to live with a parent who has no money when you can buy things like trips, concert tickets, new cell phones and a sporty set of wheels?!
Now the real fun begins.
Remember, you have all of the resources, that paralegal know-how so you can do some of the legal leg-work yourself without the necessity of those expensive attorneys for every move that you make, and the benefit of having a plan and the support required to carry it out, already in place.
Use everything you can to keep the chaos goingTHAT is your mantra.
Now if your victim was stupid enough to leave the marital home because they felt threatened (instead of calling the cops and sitting there, waiting for them to come and still foolish enough to be worried about family embarrassment) good for you! You are well on your way to WINNING!
You know that your opponent is going to try to get a PFA against you because of your actions that set the ball in motion, so you file for one against them listing your financial advisor on the petition as a family childcare provider just for giggles & added confusion!
Thanks to the benefit of the competing PFA applications ( and those pictures), you will most likely get physical custody of any children after your lawyer argues that there is no good reason to remove the child from their school or the home.
Plus it makes your opponent look like a monster who would trash their childs home.
It also helps that youve been grooming your child behind your victim's back with the help of your financial advisor in preparation for this moment! You want to make sure that its YOU that they want to live with, not the victim!.
Give yourself a high-five as your victim tries to appeal these decisions (and seek other legal help) without any access to money.
It costs a fortune to file an appeal, in addition to fighting for custody, spousal support, a mental health evaluation for your erratically acting spouse-each is a separate issue needing to be addressed in a separate venue! Your victim can never even hope to address them all!
Laugh even harder as you play games as they try to get the financial support that they need to fight you. Move court dates, dont hand in all of the paperwork.remember how you got yourself fired from your high-paying executive jobHa! Ha! Ha!
Work WAY below your earning potential! Ha!
After all, why do you need to worry about money, you were smart enough to enlist the help of your financial advisor and you can do some of your own legal work, right?! Kudos for you!
Remember, it is imperative to keep the chaos going and the focus off of yourself (especially if youve been having an affair with your financial advisor-best to put off looking at that situation as long as possible!)
Now its time to start using any children as weapons.
Remember, your opponent has no access to resources and youve got the house that theyve abandoned, so they have to rely on other people for everything.

Keeping your body healthy is important for many people as it is a way to make sure that the body will respond to the things that happen around the person in the right way. The way we think should also be right and our mental health should be taken care of.
There are many types of disorders under mental health. Thus there is a big risk for anyone to experience at least one disorder. But most of these disorders can be minor. Once it is solved, it may not affect the way that a person lives. However, if a person does not act right away, his mental health may turn weak and the simple disorder may turn into a life threatening one. Mental health disorders may consist of childhood sicknesses, anxiety, cognitive or personality of an individual.
To put an end in most mental health disorders, the patient must consult with a doctor or a therapist. By which he will be given the right medications so that his body will function normally and his line of thinking will also be correct. Also, therapy through talking to other people will be a big help for the person to think rightly and accept the situation that he is really in.

Question :
What is the general public s veiw on mental health disorders?
I am a mental health nursing student and I qualify next year. I always thought in this day and age that people had a decent knowledge of mental health illnesses. However, since being at university I have realised that is not correct. Many people are still ignorant or prejudiced towards mental health illness and out of those who are not they still do not know the facts about mental health disorders, just hear say. This is on a Global scale and not just a personal level. For example America does not let people into the country if they have sever mental health illnesses, even if that person is not a threat to their safety or other peoples. I find this very upsetting as my colleagues who work in medical nursing do not have the same problem with ignorance and prejudice towards their patients. I ve found that the media have not helped educate people on this topic as they can cause as much damage as help. I was wondering what peoples general opinion or knowledge on mental health is, where they get their information from (if they are not a sufferer themselves or a carer of someone who is) and how they think they could be educated on this topic?
Answer : I have schizophrenia and the majority of people don t know it. Yet the media are pretty much saying that all schizophrenics are paranoid, murderous criminals. Before I was diagnosed, I was doing well at University and making friends, after I was diagnosed I felt ashamed because of the public s opinion of mental health disorders. Now I m too scared to go out without my parents (I m 22) and I can t keep the friends I ve got. I don t want to go back to University as I m scared that people will find out my secret and judge me for it.
It s the media that enforces these opinions. What doesn t the media influence? After all, girls see pretty, skinny models in magazines and they want to be skinny. In the Jo Yeates case, the media hyped up the questioning of her landlord and now even though another guy s been arrested and charged with her murder, everyone thought that the landlord was responsible and wanted to hang him!
The best way to partially end the prejudice is to make a documentary about Schizophrenics that gets the attention of the public. Big Fat Gypsy Weddings made a stir within the general population and I believe that many people s prejudices against the Gypsy community were quashed. We need a Big Fat Schizophrenic Wedding documentary to educate the general public!!!
There are adverts on at the minute that are aiming to end mental health discrimination but I find one of them insulting. I personally think a documentary would be a much better idea to educate. And if anyone s got questions on schizophrenia, I m quite happy to answer, so long as they re not judging me for having it!

Question :
Can you name all of my disorders and mental health "problems"?
Okay. This is how i currently act. I do not abide by the law. I speed over a hundred miles per hour each day because i think its fun. I go to college to learn things. I do not care much about money. I do not want to get married, i m not religious and i do not wish to get married because that s like a lie. Also i do not want to get married because i ll feel "tied down." I m not exactly sure about children, but i m leaning towards the no side of that.I respect/hate people for who they are and not what they look like. I do not care for an emotional appeal, I like facts and reasoning thrown at me. I ve broken the law many times before. I love "adrenaline rushes." I do not care what others think of me. I do not like "dressing up," formal things and I hate uncomfortable clothing.I love to exercise, eat natural foods, play video games, paint "fine art" and hang out with people who genuinely honest and have a positive attitude. I do not feel as if i need a girlfriend but if a "cool" girl, that i also like, wants to be a girlfriend, great. I always feel like i must be doing something relaxing (like sleeping), creating something (like a painting) or teaching someone something. If not, I get extremely bored.I usually get angry when i feel as if i m being manipulated. Other than that, I m usually happy and life couldn t be "better" for me. Of course, that s my opinion.
Answer : Although a diagnosis is impossible in this forum, some of what you say here seems to point to "Antisocial Personality Disorder." That s the DSM IV new way of describing a sociopath.
I encourage you to meet with a professional, maybe take the MMPI to get some direction on whether or not you are just a self-absorbed jerk (no offense) or someone suffering from a disorder.

Question :
Depression?
I have been suffering from Bipolar depression for several years now...somewhere around 10 years. The doctor has put me on several different medications that caused me more issues (weight gain, fatigue and other stuff like that) that I could not handle. I have not been on medicine since I had my son 2 years ago. Things seem to be getting worse lately with all the stress that has been added since my wedding in May. I have an appointment with my doctor today to try to get something to help me. It has gotten to the boilling point where I can see my condition hurting my family. Anyone have any suggestions on what medications worked good for you or someone you know? Or any other comments for me...please don t be negative..that is not going to help me at all..it will only make it worse.
Answer : I have had moderate to severe depression on and off for about 14 years now I have tried that many different medications its not funny my main complaint was weight gain or my dose of the medication would go up and up until I hit the highest dose of that medication - Im now taking Endep and although it caused weight gain to start with (for the 1st year ugh) that seems to have stopped and Im starting to ever so slowly lose the weight again - If I dont take it even for a couple of days I end up having severe depression and many panic attacks - I dont have bipolar and Endep does make you sleep but then this is one of the reasons I was put on it as I have pretty bad insomnia as well so I need the help to get to sleep... I know I havent answered your question but I gave up for a couple of years when I was pregnant and had my baby etc and things just spiraled in a downward direction until I went back to the Drs to try some new medications again - just remember they can take a little while to kick in (around 2 weeks) so dont get discouraged if they dont work straight away for you... I wish you all the best and Im glad you recognise whats happening to you before you do, do something you dont want to do.
